2024 Association Bylaws Update

The Building Industry Association of the RRV board of directors has discussed and approved publishing several proposed changes to the organization’s bylaws.

They will vote on the amendments Oct. 15, 2024.

Bylaws’ updates require at least two days’ notice to the membership before board action is to be taken. Summary of Proposed Bylaws Updates 2024

  • Update the BIA-RRV name throughout and change to “housing and building industries” instead of home building industry.
  • The board of directors wanted to explore reducing the number of Builder members on the board, thereby reducing the overall size of the board. Article V Board of Directors
    • The Executive Committee discussed and approved the language changing the board to be composed of not less than 11 or more than 17 directors.
    • They propose that at least 1/3 of the directors be required to be Builder members (rather than a majority).
  • The board also wanted to look at restructuring the Executive Committee to allow Associates the opportunity to serve as president. Article VI Officers
    • The Executive Committee discussed and proposes keeping the current officer titles and two separate ladders.
      • Remove the word “Associate” from Associate Vice President.
      • Allow Builders or Associates to serve on either of the two ladders.
  • The Executive Committee discussed and proposes adding a stipulation that an ex-officio board member serving on NAHB’s board of directors will be exempt from attendance requirements for the local board (to retain voting rights). Article V Board of Directors Section 6
  • Minor housekeeping items:
    • Dropping “of the United States” in the National Association of Home Builders of the United States throughout the document after the first reference.
    • Annual Meeting updated to being held in January rather than October and the review of affairs presented to the membership meeting at the first member meeting of the year, rather than at either the October or January meeting of the membership. Article I Membership Section 4
    • Officers elected at “a” meeting instead of the November board meeting. Article V Board of Directors Section 5
    • Clarifying that officers must be primary contacts for Builder or Associate members, not Affiliates, Honorary or Emerging Professional members. Article VI Officers
