News from NAHB: Senate passes major housing package

On Oct. 9, the Senate passed the Renewing Opportunity in the American Dream (ROAD) to Housing Act, legislation that addresses the United States' housing supply issues by looking at concerns surrounding zoning and land-use policies, aging housing stock, rural housing and multifamily housing.

The legislation directs the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to work with stakeholders, including home builders and developers to develop best practices for providing state and local governments with an array of options to increase housing production. Similarly, there is a provision to reward communities that welcome housing growth with more Community Development Block Grant funding.

NAHB is in great support of this bipartisan bill as it aims to increase housing supply, a key factor for housing affordability.
